The 3-day progression takes your skills one step further than our 2 day course. Our third day added on gives an opportunity to dial in the roll and get another day in the rapids, with a class 3 at the end of the day. This course is generally taken by people who have not been in a kayak or who have very little experience in kayaks. Classes are available any day of the week, just give us a call.
Day 1: class starts in the pool where students are introduced to kayaking by learning wet exits, controlling the boat on edge and working on the Eskimo Roll. After lunch class resumes and students learn a variety of strokes and the fundamentals of boat control in moving water, paddling in a straight line, eddy turns and peel outs. Students will focus on river safety and river preparation for the following day.
Day 2: We will apply the boating concepts of the previous day while paddling five miles of whitewater on the Klickitat River. Students will practice reading whitewater, river safety, scouting, and running rapids. The flat stretches in between rapids will provide the opportunity for students to practice the roll. Lunch is provided on the river.
Day 3: Gives students the opportunity to practice in the pool if anyone needs to perfect the roll. Following that session we will head back to the Klickitat to gain more experience and confidence in the whitewater. At the end of the day students have the chance to run "ishy pishy" the class 3 rapid at the end of the stretch. Lunch is provided.
Dates: Sat - Mon. or any three consecutive days.
*Class size is limited so sign up in advance to insure your spot.
If you can't make it on a weekend, find a friend and we can set up a mid-week lesson with 2 or more students.
